Good deep ruby-red. Aromas of black raspberry, violet and sweet new oak, all nicely lifted by a peppery component. Pure dark berry fruit offers a juicy character and very good intensity. A supple, sweet, fruit-driven wine that finishes with substantial ripe tannins and a lingering note of violet. “Pax wine with training wheels,” notes Mahle, adding that this cuvee is made from the more forward and less tannic barrels and is designed for use by restaurants.
Offers a medley of pepper and wild berry flavors, framed by rich and dense yet supple tannins, finishing with a burst of fruit and ending on a complex tart note. Decant.
There are 600 cases of the 2004 Syrah Cuvee Christine, a selection from various vineyards. Kept 17 months in mostly new French oak, and bottled without fining or filtration (the general practice at Pax), it is a lovely, forward, fruity Syrah offering notes of white chocolate, black currants, smoke, roasted herbs, and licorice. This is a full-bodied, fleshy, succulent effort to drink over the next 4-5 years.
