Deep, bright gold. Aromas of dried apricot, cherry-almond, brown spices and hazelnut lifted by sauvignon-like grapefruit and pineapple nuances. Fat and moderately glyceral but with lovely acidity and a saline character contributing to the wine’s enticing sugar/acid balance. Finishes honeyed and long, with a fresh bitter edge and lingering spices.
A ripe, flashy style, with layers of creamed peach, Jonagold apple, candied citrus peel and dried apricot, all stitched with lovely acacia honey and floral notes. This has power and purity. Drink now through 2022. 3,500 cases made.
Tasted as part of a vertical held at the chateau. It is clear that the aromatics on the 2008 are a little simpler and more straightforward than the 2007 with honeysuckle, jasmine and mango scents emerging with time. The palate is ripe and precise on the entry with well-integrated oak that is in sync with the lemon curd and apricot fruit. There is a lovely sweetness on the finish with a hint of spice lingering in the mouth. As I wrote last year – sublime. Drink 2017-2030+ Tasted April 2013.
