The 2008 Marques de Tomares Reserva has licorice and black fruit aromas, with some vanilla and nutmeg thrown in. The palate reveals a medium-bodied wine, but the fruit is already fading and should be drunk soon. Drink now-2015. -Wine Advocate
(80% tempranillo, 15% graciano and 5% mazuelo; aged in French and American oak): Deep ruby. Smoky, pungent aromas of dried cherry, pipe tobacco and licorice, with a suave vanilla quality emerging with aeration. Pliant, appealingly sweet cherry and redcurrant flavors pick up a peppery quality with air and show very good energy. Dusty tannins come on late, adding shape to the long, oak-spiced finish. Strikes a nice balance between traditional and modern Rioja and offers plenty of appeal now after some decanting.
