Bright red. Perfumed aromas of black cherry, graphite and sexy nutty oak. Rich, ripe, broad and sweet, with open-knit red cherry and blueberry syrup flavors. The long finish shows sneaky concentration, a fine dusting of tannins and noticeable alcoholic warmth. If I hadn’t known this was a 2008 wine, I would have sworn it was a 2007. Still, I like this wine’s ripe personality and creamy delivery of fruit.
The cherry, vanilla, tea and menthol flavors reign in this ripe red, with plenty of grip and acidity driving the flavors to a moderate finish. A touch dry in the end. Best from 2015 through 2027. 1,600 cases made. –BS
The estate’s 2008 Brunello di Montalcino stands out for its expressive inner perfume and silky, refined personality. A wine that literally floats on the palate, the 2008 is graced with sweet red cherries, tobacco, mint and spices. Bright saline notes support the vibrant finish. The 2008 can be enjoyed with minimum cellaring, but also appears to have the energy to age well for a number of years. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2023.
