Black cherries, plums, lavender, smoke, spices and wild flowers jump from the glass in the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino. Today, the flavors are bright and primary, while the tannins are tightly wound. I would prefer to drink the 2010 sooner rather than later, though, while the fruit retains its vibrancy. The Brunello di Montalcino, often informally called the ‘white label’, is aged exclusively in cask. — Antonio Galloni
