The 2011 Finca El Grajo Viejo, produced with old-vine Tempranillo grapes, is fermented in 500-liter oak barrels and then aged in new barriques for 18 months. It feels extremely ripe, with aromas of candied black fruit, hinting at raisins, organic and soil notes and plenty of oak-related aromas, toast, smoke, peat and black pepper. The palate is full-bodied with an abundance of tannins that might be too much, plenty of glycerin and alcohol, but lacking elegance and balance. It feels like they are trying too hard. Drink 2014-2017. – Luis Gutiérrez – 28-08-2014
