This has concentrated aromas and flavors of ripe pear, melon and apple tart that feature a creamy spiciness. -Wine Spectator
The 2011 Chardonnay is French oak aged, and sometimes that has been a problem with this bottling (see the review on the 2009). That said, this shows far better balance than the 2009 on release (granting that reconstructing how wines showed at identical moments in their development some two years later is not always an exact science). Still, the acidity and oak seem in much better balance than on the 2009, while the wine has more persistence and energy than the graceful, but rather understated 2010. This has a pretty good argument in Clos de Gat’s lineup for being its best Chardonnay effort yet. If this is a trend rather than the vintage, I like where it is going. The final step – let’s see it hold gracefully for a few years. I’m leaning up at the moment, but it needs to hold well at peak. Drink now-2016.
