Broad, fleshy and inviting, with plum sauce and cherry pie flavors that bounce through a briar- and anise-tinged finish. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Carignan. Drink now. 2,200 cases imported. –JM
As for the excellent 2011 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Massif d’Uchaux, this wine is an unusual blend of 50%, 25% Syrah and the rest Cinsault and some old vine Carignan, which give the wine loads of strawberry and floral notes as well as some hints of loamy soil in a medium-bodied, elegant and complex Provencal style. It should drink nicely over the next year.
This is one of the better-known estates in the Southern Rhone, owned by the Richard family of Chateau La Nerthe.
