Good full medium red. Captivating aromas of redcurrant, wild cherry, iron and spices. Juicy and intense but youthfully tight; more shapely and reserved by a wide margin than the Commaraine, with a nicely restrained sweetness. The firm, long finish features good grip and noteworthy refinement. Outstanding potential.
The 2012 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens is more feminine, more refined and delineated on the nose than Louis Jadot’s two other premier crus, the class of the terroir evident. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp ripe tannins, good acidity and a structured, focused and tensile finish. Frederic Barnier has fashioned a Pommard the expresses Les Rugiens with both class and conviction.
