Hints of melon and pear with subtle tropical pineapple notes infuse the 2013 Pape Clément Blanc. The flavors are very much on the bright side of the spectrum, but the texture is a bit softer than one might expect. A textured finish supported by French oak rounds things out nicely. Lemon curd, white peach and shortbread flavors are taking shape, along with notes of meringue and sweetened butter. Rather tightly wound today, but very long. Score range: 92-95 –JM

Strikingly concentrated, a la a grand cru white Burgundy, the 2013 Pape Clement exhibits notes of orange zest, white currants, flowers, exotic mango and melony fruit. This medium to full-bodied, compellingly deep, fresh white wine should drink well for 10-20 years. It is a candidate for the white wine of the vintage in Bordeaux.
