THE VINEYARD(S)
The Domaine Gueguen is a 55 acres estate split up between 35 different vineyards plots. In Chablis, they own vineyards in: Chichée, Préhy, la Chapelle Vaupelteigne. In Auxerrois,they own vineyards in: Saint-Bris and Irancy . This 2.5 acres Premier Cru vineyard is located int he Southern part of Chablis next to the village of Chichée on the east bank of the Serein river, right accross from Vosgros. The low yield 40 years old vines of Chardonnay are oriented with a south exposure and planted onto the classic Chablis Kimmeridgian soils. (limestone and clay). Yields: 52hl/ha
THE WINE
This Premier Cru is quite expressive and bursts with fruity notes like apple, pears and stone fruits. In order to translate the purity of the soil, the Gueguen do not use any oak barrel for the ageing.
TASTING NOTES
Color: Pale gold
Aromas: A fruity nose of ripe pears and apple, almonds and stone minerality.
Palate: Clean start, followed by pear, stone fruit, hint of nuts and lingering finish.
Pairing: A delicious wine with chicken fricassé, white fish with sauce like halibut or northern pike, veal stews, sautéed scallops in butter…
Cellaring: Now up to 10 years
