The Château Maucaillou 2014 has a classic-styled nose with graphite and tobacco infused black fruit that is very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded blackberry and boysenberry scents, crisp acidity with a pleasant touch of spice on the finish. The 2014 Maucaillou has turned out nicely. There is good purity and freshness to the fruit. Sadly, the new oak has not integrated, so readers will have to accept that small flaw. Regardless, this is a very pretty wine with plenty of bright red stone fruit, floral overtones and silky tannins. – Antonio Galloni
