A wine of total finesse, the 2014 Prieuré-Lichine boasts striking purity in its fruit. The flavors are bright and floral throughout, with plenty of red currant, cherry and raspberry. There is virtually no sensation of tannin. Although perhaps not super-complex, the 2014 is impeccably balanced and harmonious from the very first taste. I imagine the 2014 will drink well with minimal cellaring, as it is already quite open-knit and expressive. This is a very strong showing from Prieuré-Lichine and consulting winemakers Stéphane Derenoncourt and Julien Lavenu. The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Tasted twice. — 91-94 Points, Antonio Galloni.
Focused, with a velvety beam of crushed plum and warm cherry notes flowing through the anise- and plum cake-accented finish. A little reliant on toast in the end, but the balance is there.—J.M.
The Château Prieuré-Lichine 2014 has a rather standoffish nose at first, but with a few swirls of the glass it opens up to reveal blackcurrant, raspberry and cassis scents with a light estuary influence just underneath (perhaps a whiff from the Gironde?) The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, lighter in style than other Margaux, but elegant and focused, the finish very harmonious with assiduously integrated new oak. Very fine. Tasted twice with consistent notes.
The 2014 Prieuré-Lichine is just as impressive from bottle as it was from barrel. Silky, perfumed and gracious on the palate, the wine exudes class. Sweet floral and spice notes meld into a core of red stone fruit, and silky tannins and vivid flavors lead into a creamy and inviting finish. I would prefer to cellar the 2014 for at least a few years, but it is quite beautiful and polished even at this early stage. The blend is 65 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 % Merlot and 5 % Petit Verdot. This is a very strong showing from Prieuré-Lichine and consulting winemakers Stéphane Derenoncourt and Julien Lavenu. Tasted two times. Drink Window: 2020-2034
