Pro Reviews

Wine Spectactor (WS)

A classic version, with a petrol- and spice-laced nose, steely acidity and finely meshed notes of Honeycrisp apple, preserved lemon, yellow peach and pine forest. Long, sleek finish. To be released October 2019. Drink now through 2030. -AN (2017)

The 2014 Grand Cru Geisberg Riesling opens with a clear, ripe and intense, well-concentrated and complex bouquet with crushed stone, lemon peel and herbal aromas. Full-bodied, juicy, intense and piquant, with good concentration and complexity, this is a full-bodied, dense and persistent Riesling with firm, yet still somewhat austere tannins and good acidity. I suppose this will be a great Geisberg in 10 or more years, but not much earlier. A very promising Riesling! -Stephan Reinhardt (06/30/2017)

Aromas of limestone and hints of earth. Wet morning forest floor. This is from the vineyards of the convent of Ribeauville. This has been made separately since 2009. All organically farmed. Only 8.5 hectares total with Trimbach as four. The Montrachet of Alsace? Available in 2019. -James Suckling (09/25/2015)

Vinous Media (VM)

Medium, gold-tinged straw. Intense licorice and stone fruit aromas on the rich, ripe nose. Enters the mouth rich and round, then turns brighter and fresher, offering hints of ripe tropical fruits and honey. Finishes showy and long, with hints of minerals and clover honey. This is almost sweet by Trimbach’s standards, and though I am sure many will love its extroverted personality, it’s a little simple at present. The first vintage of this wine was the 2009; the Trimbach family took over the parcel in 2008 but decided not to sell the wine they made that year.) The vines belong to the Convent of Ribeauvillé. – Ian D’Agata – 02/01/2016
