François Faiveley took over the domain at the age of 25. He was able to give it a new boost – using a precursor of the sorting table and carrying out cold macerations for example. At the same age as his father, Erwan Faiveley took over the domain in 2007, becoming the seventh generation. On his arrival, he renewed and reinforced his team and invested in the winery and the vineyards. He brought new dynamics to the family business, while remaining faithful to his predecessors’ values.
On the nose, scents of small red fruits mix pleasantly with spicy and woody aromas, which come from the wine being raised traditionally in oak. This wine is very nicely balanced on the palate. Its rich aromas blend marvelously with its tannins, giving a wine which is greedy and full of body. -Winemaker’s Notes, Domaine Faiveley website
Discreet wood sets off slightly riper yet still fresh aromas of plum, earth, spice and black cherry that offer even better complexity. Here too the mouth feel of the medium-bodied flavors is sleek and vibrant while possessing excellent complexity, balance and persistence. This is a very good value play and recommended.
Moderately saturated bright red. More sappy and mineral-driven on the nose than the Clos des Myglands, offering vibrant scents of raspberry, red cherry and high-pitched spices. Then tighter and a bit more intense on the palate, with its tannins accentuated by minerality. A very impressive Mercurey wine in the making. -Stephen Tanzer
