2015 Tenuta Carretta Barbaresco Terzius

Description

Tenuta Carretta is the oldest winery in Piedmonte, dating as far back as 1467, in Piobesi d’Alba and recently purchased by the Miroglio family from the textile business. The vineyards are a part of the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato wine district, an extraordinary territory that was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. The Miroglio family has moved towards sustainable farming and to also learn from the local people about their ancient knowledge of winemaking and farming to find the perfect balance between history and innovation.

The nose is inviting and intense, with aromas of violet and withered rose, dried herbs and notes of vanilla and spice. The wine has a lovely complexity and is harmonic and lengthy on the palate. The tannins are strong and chewy but there is a nice acidity that helps to balance it out. Flavors of dark rich fruit meld with dark chocolate, smoke and hints of leather and musk.
