The 2019 Le Petit Lion is excellent, offering up nots of dark berries, plums, pencil shavings and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, deep and lively palate that’s nicely concentrated, concluding with a long, saline finish. It’s produced from vines within the clos of Leoville-Las Cases itself—mainly young-vine Cabernet Sauvignon and old-vine, less optimally exposed Merlot in a block that borders Latour. – 10/03/2022
This is really beautiful with blackcurrants, spice, black olives and blueberries. Full-bodied with chewy tannins. It’s bright and focused. Excellent second wine from Las Cases. One of the best. – June 3, 2020
The 2019 Le Petit Lion is a blend of old-vine Merlot and younger vine Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep and savory in the glass, the Petit Lion is wonderfully expressive today. Readers should plan on cellaring the 2019, as it has quite a bit of tannin lurking beneath all the rich fruit. More than anything else, it is the wine’s persistence and finish that really stands out. – Antonio Galloni – 18/06/2020
46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc. Barrel sample. A real mini-Las Cases with the emphasis on structure and length on the palate. Aromatically restrained with a minerally, graphite tone. Firm and fresh with lovely fruit extraction. Plenty of reserve. Long, dry, linear finish. (JL) – 08/06/2020
