The 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs is made of Chardonnay from Premier Cru sites in Cuis. What’s on the market now was disgorged in August 2016, and this will be here through the summer. It’s 70% 2013, 6% 2012, 9% of 2011, 10% of 2010 and 5% of 2009. It’s both classy and classic young Gimonnet; mineral, stylish and needing only time to shed the youthful brashness that partly obscures the rich toasty flowery fruit. Its successor is 65% 2014, 12% 2013, 10% 2012, 8% of 2011 and 5% of 2010. Disgorged in Feb 2017, Didier feels it’s a quick developer. A subtle oxidative note, while fellow tasters spoke of “lactic” “caramel” and “butterscotch.” Didier theorizes it’s the ’12 in the blend. —Terry Theise
Wine Advocate (WA)
I tasted two different versions of Gimonnet’s signature NV Cuis 1er Cru Brut Blanc de Blancs earlier this year; both were excellent as usual. The most recent disgorgement from January 2015 is based on the 2011 vintage (+ 22% Réserve wines), and is very pure, lovely, fresh and delicate on the typically intense, chalky/mineral, well balanced and elegant palate. The lighthearted yet quite complex wine was disgorged with a dosage of 6.5 grams per liter. The forerunner, based on 2008 and disgorged in October 2014, was even finer and provided with a very god length.

Based on the premier cru Chardonnay vineyards of Cuis, this soft and fresh wine is beautifully balanced. It has apple freshness, a tangy texture from minerality, and a bright and fruity aftertaste.

Gimonnet’s NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Cuvée Cuis 1er Cru is such a beautiful wine. Crisp, dry and refreshing, the Blanc de Blancs will give readers a very good idea of the bracing style that is such a signature of these wines. White orchard fruit and expressive floral notes abound. The persistent, articulate finish only adds appeal. Disgorged: July 2017. Dosage is 6 grams per liter.
