“The bottled 2016s capture every bit of the potential I sensed when I started tasting the wines from barrel, prior to en primeur, in January 2017. I found many 2016s to be even better from bottle than they were during the spring futures campaign. The best 2016s are powerful, richly layered, vibrant and stunningly beautiful, not to mention incredibly delicious and alluring. For so many wines and estates, 2016 is an epic vintage.” – Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: ‘2016 Bordeaux…It’s All In The Bottle’, January 2019

Note: The prices listed are as of January 10, 2024 and are subject to change. Wines are expected to start shipping May/June 2024.

2016 Château Léoville Las Cases Saint Julien

2016 Château Léoville Las Cases Saint Julien, $2,340 per 6-Pack ($390 per bottle)

100 Points, Wine Advocate: One of the high points of this great vintage, the 2016 Léoville Las Cases is a brilliant wine that unwinds in the glass with aromas of dark berries, pencil shavings, cigar wrapper, loamy soil and violets. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it’s concentrated and complete, with beautifully refined tannins, vibrant acids and a long, mineral finish. Even in this series of great wines, it stands out for its cool classicism and unerring precision. Still an infant, while the 2016 is sufficiently polished to be far from forbidding, the real fireworks won’t begin for another decade. Drink: 2030 – 2075. – William Kelley, August 2022

2016 Château La Mondotte Saint Émilion

2016 Château La Mondotte Saint Émilion, $1,590 per 6-Pack ($265 per bottle)

97 Points, Vinous Media: The 2016 La Mondotte is gorgeous in this vintage. Over the last few years, Stephan von Neipperg has gradually started to pick earlier. Nowhere is that more evident in his wines than at La Mondotte, which in 2016 impresses for its power, tension and energy. Much less obvious than it has been in the past, La Mondotte is arrestingly beautiful at this stage. Bright floral and mineral notes run through a core of dark red and purplish fruit in this stunningly beautiful, expressive Saint-Émilion. In a word: tremendous. Tasted two times. Drink: 2021 – 2041. – Antonio Galloni, December 2018

2016 Chateau Pape Clement label.

2016 Château Pape Clément Pessac Léognan, $654 per 6-Pack ($109 per bottle)

96 Points, Vinous Media: The 2016 Pape Clément is fabulous. Racy and sumptuous in the glass, the 2016 captures the style that now characterizes Bernard Magrez’s wines from his estate in Pessac. Specifically, the 2016 is wonderfully deep in the glass, and yet retains terrific freshness as well. A rush of dark cherry, plum, smoke, scorched earth, grilled herb, leather and menthol builds as the 2016 shows off its compelling, inviting personality. I would prefer to give the 2016 at least a few years in bottle to allow its full breadth of aromatics to develop. Even so, there is so much to like. Pliant, supple and super-expressive, Pape Clément is gorgeous in 2016. Tasted two times. Drink: 2022 – 2036. – Antonio Galloni, December 2018

2016 Château Gloria Saint Julien 1.5L

2016 Château Gloria Saint Julien 1.5L, $612 per 6-Pack/Mags ($102 per Mag)

96 Points, Vinous Media: The 2016 Gloria is one of the undisputed stars of this vintage. Rich, deep and explosive, the 2016 possesses tremendous intensity in all of its dimensions. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, menthol, licorice and dried rose petal all add complexity. In 2016 Gloria is a real head-turner. It should be a fabulous value as well. There is not much else to say. Drink: 2026 – 2046. – Antonio Galloni, December 2018

2016 Château Beauséjour Bécot Saint Émilion

2016 Château Beauséjour Bécot Saint Émilion, $534 per 6-Pack ($89 per bottle)

95 Points, Vinous Media: The 2016 Beauséjour Bécot has a sensual bouquet of pure red cherries and crushed strawberry laced with cedar and light graphite scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well-judged acidity. The finish is harmonious and somehow just effortless. This actually reminds me of its neighbor, Château Canon. Could the 2016 represent the best Beauséjour Bécot ever made? Quite possibly. Drink: 2022 – 2050. – Neal Martin, December 2018

2016 Château Langoa Barton Saint Julien

2016 Château Langoa Barton Saint Julien, $402 per 6-Pack ($67 per bottle)

93 Points, Wine Advocate: The 2016 Langoa Barton is medium to deep garnet-purple colored and opens with cedar, red and black currants, kirsch and menthol with smoked meats. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm, grainy and packed with youthful, energetic fruit, finishing long and perfumed. Drink: 2020 – 2035. – Lisa Perrotti-Brown, November 2018

2016 Château Haut Batailley Pauillac

2016 Château Haut Batailley Pauillac, $324 per 6-Pack ($54 per bottle)

94 Points, Vinous Media: The 2016 Haut-Batailley was tasted from two bottles, the first showing a touch of TCA. The second has an airy and well-defined bouquet of blackberry, graphite and subtle floral aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins and very classic in style, displaying impressive grip. I appreciate the substance toward the finish, and the pencil lead lingering on the aftertaste. This is an outstanding Haut-Batailley. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting. Drink: 2022 – 2042. – Neal Martin, January 2020
