Dark red. Vibrant red berry and cherry aromas, with suave Asian spice and mineral accents. This is almost pinot-like in its clarity and brightness, and reminded me of a Dujac wine. Very spicy raspberry and strawberry flavors show a distinct peppery quality, with excellent lift and palate coverage. A hint of fresh wasabi on the finish adds energy and cut. There’s real finesse here.
The 2005 Syrah Cuvee Moriah (a blend of 75% Grenache, 14% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, and 1% Roussanne) is deep ruby/purple with huge amounts of peppery black raspberry and kirsch notes, a touch of underbrush and fennel as well as a long, heady finish. This is sumptuous, puncheon-aged wine that is big on fruit, complexity, and deliciousness. This is not one for making old bones, so drink it over the next 3-4 years. – Robert M. Parker, Jr. – 28.12.07
