Single Malt Japanese Whisky from Eigashima Shuzo (White Oak Distillery) in Hyogo Prefecture • Aged 3 years in ex-bourbon casks and then finished for 1 year in house-seasoned, ex-umeshu casks • A nose of confectioner’s sugar, honey, stewed plums, and crème de noyeux leading to a palate of cereal grain, brown sugar, plum skin, and chocolate malt balls • 50% ABV • Eigashima Shuzo has been producing plum wine (umeshu) aged in ex-bourbon barrels for decades, and has now used these ex-umeshu casks to create a unique bottling of Akashi single malt that expresses characteristics akin to brandy.
